Ticket Amnesty in DeKalb County.
According to various sources, On Common Ground, Kathie Gannon Commissioner for DeKalb county and DeKalb County Traffic Court, there will be a ticket amnesty program for citations issued out of DeKalb County. Many people are stopped, or pulled over, for various violations in DeKalb County and occasionally people will miss court.
For whatever reason when you miss court the court will issue a failure to appear (or FTA) on your case. In addition to the FTA the court will also issue, or will usually issue a Bench warrant for your arrest and will then issue a notice of license suspension with the Department of Driver Services. Remember that ALL traffic citations in Georgia are criminal in nature which is why they can carry such heavy penalties.
Of course, there is still some worry for many out there that an appearance in court will still result in a arrest based on the FTA or bench warrant. However, the new amnesty program allows you to appear without the worry. Citations range from Suspended Drivers License, Super Speeder, Speeding Citations, Failure to stop at a stop sign, Suspended registration and the list goes on. The amnesty program started on March 11, 2019 and will continue until May 17, 2019. You can register on DeKalb county website or by clicking here or by going to the DeKalb County Website here and following instructions. After downloading the form for DeKalb County you would then need to send to the email address at [email protected]. Once you do all of this you can also follow the dates and assignment for your case by getting updates directly from the court at www.courtinnovations.com/GADCSC which will give you text and email updates on your case (similar to a reminder for your court date when it is assigned and as it approaches).
The citations that are included range in dates from 2008 to present (2019). DeKalb County isn’t the only traffic court that is offering amnesty. The City of East Point was also offering Ticket Amnesty for a short time.
